RESTful URLs in FIM Portal

Somewhere out in codeplex I came across REST APIs for Sharepoint and articles that say .Net 4.0 will support REST for CRUD functions. Wonder how soon FIM Portal could leverage and offer RESTful URIs to end users? Not an expert in Sharepoint or programming so I welcome feedback on how easy or hard it is to get there.
