I'm trying to determine if it is possible to automatically renew Smart Card certificates in a MS Certificate Services/FIM 2010 environment.
Details on this process are sketchy, but it appears that if you are using v2 Smart Card certificates and the users have Read, Enrol, and auto-Enrol permissions, then at renewal time a balloon will prompt them for their PIN and the proceed to renew the certificate on the card.
We get to the point where we encounter the balloon, but instead of automatically renewing the Smart Card, the balloon simply gives them instructions to open an MMC console and renew the card manually.
Has anyone managed to get auto-renewal of smart cards to function, and if so, do you have details on how to get there?
